“I joined the Southampton Women’s Study back in 1999. I have a healthcare background and am also a researcher and so was really pleased to have the opportunity to be part of such a large scale study. I remember the friendly face of the SWS nurse who was my first visitor to the postnatal ward at the Princess Anne Hospital after the birth of my daughter in 2002! Since her birth, my daughter and I have both enjoyed contributing to the study, with regular visits from the nurses to our home in the early days and more recently to the hospital. The bone scans were fascinating and for me, personally, the detailed dietary information that we provided for the study proved a real game-changer. Like many of us, I am aware of public health messages and media campaigns about the importance of a healthy diet. Taking part in the Southampton Women’s Study gave me plenty of food for thought, in terms of taking healthy nutrition seriously and the lasting impact that it has, not just on my own health, but that of my family and generations still to come.”
